SFPD was big help to driver

Last week, for the 100 Acre Wood rally, I had the pleasure of visiting the Steelville/Salem area. I’ve raced in many different parts of this country, and I’ve never seen the hospitality I witnessed in Missouri last week. Thank You.

Also, I wish to commend the Steelville Volunteer Fire Department. Friday night, during the rally, we ran out of gas on Hwy 19 just outside of Steelville. Being stuck on the side of the road is never fun, but having it happen during competition, makes it all the worse. Almost immediately after our car stopped, two Steelville firemen pulled up behind us.

They set their lights flashing, and then helped us push our disabled vehicle off the road and onto the shoulder. Then, they helped us get a gallon of gas, and waited with us while it was delivered to us. When our car was running again, they wished us good luck and saw us off. Through the entire experience, they were courteous and friendly. I have the feeling that they were just happy to help someone out. That attitude seems to be a rare thing these days, especially in public servants.

Again, I’d like to thank the City of Steelville, and the Fire Department for hosting such a fun event, and such tremendous hospitality.
